Frequently asked questions

How do I get internet when I move into an apartment?

If you move into a multi-unit building with AT&T internet already installed in your condo or apartment, you don’t need to do anything to get internet installed. An AT&T Wi-Fi Gateway should come preinstalled in your unit so you can start using service the day you move in. Contact your property manager to determine if service is billed through them or if you need to establish a personal account with AT&T.

How many Mbps do I need for an apartment?

The size of your place doesn’t matter too much when choosing internet for your apartment — what matters more is (a) what you do online and (b) how many devices you use the busiest times on your apartment internet.

  • Add more Mbps for data-heavy activities. Every action done on your apartment internet takes speed/Mbps to complete. Loading text takes just a little speed, while loading graphics and sound takes a lot — especially when loading continuously, at a high resolution, e.g., when streaming, conferencing, or gaming in HD.

  • Add more Mbps for each device you use. Each activity you do requires its own data stream. If you’re going to scroll social media on your phone while streaming on a big-screen TV, you need Mbps for both devices. If a housemate is doing the same in the next room, they’ll need that same amount of bandwidth besides.

  • Get enough Mbps for the busiest times on your network. No one wants to take turns in this connected age. Get enough Mbps to cover when everyone is online, or you’ll find yourself frustrated with your speed choice pretty quickly.

Is 500 Mbps good for an apartment?

The activities you do online and the number of devices you use matter more than the size of your home.

Apartment internet options from AT&T start at up to 300 Mbps, great for apartment households of one or two people and a few devices each.

Speeds up to 500 Mbps can work great for a slightly bigger household — or a smaller one passionate about gaming, HD/4K streaming, content creation, and similar data-heavy activities.

Can you install your own internet in an apartment?

Most customers of AT&T Internet 100 can install internet in their condos and apartments. AT&T Fiber customers, however, usually have to schedule professional installation so an expert can switch out the old copper wiring for a new fiber line.

Whatever AT&T service you order, make sure you get approval to install service from your landlord, management company, or HOA.

How much is Wi-Fi for a small apartment?

All AT&T internet plans include Wi-Fi — you won’t pay extra fees for your Wi-Fi Gateway lease. Find pricing on AT&T internet for apartments here.

Does AT&T offer Wi-Fi for apartment complexes?

Yes! AT&T internet plans for condos or apartments can attract the 89% of renters interested in High-Speed Internet — or who won’t even rent without it.

Consider including internet in the rental package to increase the convenience factor, and assure residents they’ll keep their privacy with the built-in AT&T ActiveArmorSM security. Call 1-833-815-1260 to get a quote for AT&T internet and Wi-Fi for apartment complexes today.
