Top for Womens Business

23 March, 2009

On March 26, Dallas-based AT&T announced that America’s leading advocate for women-owned businesses as suppliers to the nation’s corporations, Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), has honored AT&T as one of the Top Corporations for Women’s Business Enterprises (WBEs).

AT&T’s exceptional commitment to diversity has not been overlooked, as this is the 10th consecutive year that WBENC has recognized the telecom company. Since the WBENC created the list, AT&T has been included for its efforts to break down barriers that prevent women-owned businesses from having equal access to opportunities.

The Women’s Business Enterprise National Council is a corporate member organization, designed to verify WBEs and promote women’s success in business. AT&T is a longstanding board member and proud supporter of the WBENC.

"Supplier diversity is an integral part of the way AT&T does business. By providing contracting opportunities for women business enterprises, we're empowering ourselves to win in today's competitive global marketplace," stated AT&T President of Supply Chain and Fleet Operations, Tim Harden. "We are honored to receive this award from WBENC because it is a reflection of our ongoing world-class supplier diversity initiatives."

Due to AT&T’s continued dedication to providing WBEs with contracting opportunities, the telecom giant remains a Top Corporation for WBEs. During the WBENC award ceremony, America’s Top Corporations for Women’s Business Enterprises Awards, AT&T will be honored with 19 other national corporations. The event will take place in National Harbor, MD, during WBENC’s 2009 Summit and Salute to Women’s Business Enterprise. More than 1,000 people are expected to attend in celebrating 14 honorable Women’s Business Enterprise Stars from WBEs across the nation.

This is not AT&T’s first award for its commitment to diversity and gender equality. The company has ranked No. 1 for three consecutive years on DiversityBusiness.com’s list of Top Organizations for Multicultural Business Opportunities.
