Barcodes and DSL Among Top Technological Inventions

8 October, 2009

I was poking around the internet today, hoping I wouldn't reach the end and have to start all over, when I discovered an interesting tidbit: the barcode was patented 57 years ago.

It's hard to believe that something so prevalent as barcodes in our era of high tech gadgetry wasn't invented just a handful of years ago, but it wasn't. This got me thinking about my high-speed DSL internet service from ATTSavings.com, wondering how long ago DSL was invented.

Did you know that DSL has roots dating back to 1948? This makes it a few years older than barcodes, but to be accurate it wasn't actually invented until 1984. It's also quite interesting to note that speeds of 54Kbps back then were considered incredibly fast. Today, high-speed DSL offers speeds of up to 24Mbps. It's no wonder why ATTSavings.com offers high-speed DSL Internet. It's one of the greatest inventions of our modern era.
