The state of our environment is an important issue that faces everyone, and AT&T is doing what it can to preserve it. CO2 emissions are currently a primary cause in the deterioration of the environment. By eliminating a source of carbon dioxide emissions, AT&T will remove a large burden off the environment. How is AT&T doing this? The NightWatchman® PC power management solution is the answer. NightWatchman is a program that automatically shuts down your company’s PCs during non-work hours, while still allowing software updates.
AT&T is now launching NightWatchman from 1E on 310,000 computers, which will improve energy efficiency. This translates to 135 million kilowatt hours of electricity, roughly 123,941 tons of CO2 emissions every year, which is enough electricity to power 13,892 houses. This radically decreases global CO2 emissions. The chief executive officer of 1E, Sumir Karayi, said “1E is proud to work with AT&T on this project. The deployment of Night Watchman reflects AT&T’s commitment to find sustainable business solutions that not only help the company reduce costs but also help reduce environmental impact.”
This goes right along with AT&T’s philosophy. AT&T’s Senior Vice President of Information Technology Operations, Rick Felts, said “At AT&T, our emphasis is doing more work with less energy and using products that are minimally impacting the environment.” He added, “Installing a power management solution builds on our ongoing efforts to drive energy efficiency inside our facilities. It also allows us to systematically and safely power down PCs while at the same time not compromising our ability to perform software updates as needed.” Through NightWatchman, AT&T is reducing its operation’s effect on the environment by decreasing energy expenditure during non-work hours. Additionally to this, AT&T is also utilizing wind and solar power, among other alternative energy solutions to help the environment. This is all on top of AT&T’s recycling efforts and waste reduction labors. If anyone is fighting for the environment, AT&T fits the bill.
