Today, AT&T announced that Black Enterprise magazine, leading publication highlighting careers, business, entrepreneurship and financial management in the African American community, named the Dallas-based telecommunications company one of the 40 Best Companies for Diversity in 2009.
AT&T, celebrated wireless and residential phone service provider, was measured against 1,000 of the top publically traded companies. Diversity ranking was based on the results of a survey that focused on the role of African Americans within each company. The survey highlighted four key areas to determine diversity: supplier diversity, employee base, board representation and senior management. AT&T was strongest in the categories of supplier diversity and employee base.
When considering AT&T’s fifty-state empire, 44% of its employees are women and 39% are minorities. This honor was not the first for AT&T, which has been recognized by DiversityInc, DiversityBusiness.com, and LATINA Style for fostering a diverse work environment for its employees.
